Wise Dan strolls
home in the Fayette to close out the Keeneland

Wise Dan put a big exclamation point on a big day for jockey Julien Leparoux as they scored impressively in the $150,000 Grade 2 Fayette Stakes at Keeneland on Closing day. Leparoux ended up winning five on the card, but none was more important or as easy as Wise Dan, who took command turning for home after dragging Leparoux to the leaders on the far turn. As the field straightened away, Wise Dan (BetPTC.com Top Selection) opened up at will over Ioya Bigtime who rallied from last to get up for second, while Workin For Hops managed third. Mission Impazible who was the 2/1 favorite only beat one runner home. Wise Dan returned $7.60 for the win for trainer Charles Lopresti who trained Wise Dan's older brother Successful Dan to a win in this race last year. Wise Dan might make his next start in the $500,000 Clark Handicap on the Friday after Thanksgiving card at Churchill Downs.
Cal Cup Day gets renamed Bejarano Day
Rafael Bejarano has had great success in California for a number of years now, but he made Cal Cup Day his own private party as he won five races on the card including four of the stakes events. His biggest win was in the Cal Cup Classic as he guided Norvsky (BetPTC.com Top Selection) to a hard fought win in a three horse photo. Lucky Primo went out to the early lead and looked tough as the field turned for home. Bejarano produced Norvsky on the outside and he took off after the leader, getting up just in time over a very stubborn Lucky Primo who finished second.
Bejarano took both of the early events on the Cal Cup card, with Rousing Sermon in the Juvenile and Starlight Magic in the Juvenile Fillies. Rousing Sermon (BetPTC.com Top Selection) was able to close from off the pace for Bejarano in her first attempt at going long. Starlight Magic on the other hand came to the leaders at the top of the stretch and pulled clear down the lane to score by two lengths.
Bejarano finished his big day with a score on board 6/5 favorite Unzip Me (BetPTC.com 3rd Selection) in the Cal Cup Distaff going down the famous Santa Anita Park hillside turf course. Bejarano positioned his runner in the third spot down the hill and promptly took over and never looked back.
Favorite Cartel gets
his Grade 1 win in the Challenge Championship
Favorite Cartel was able to get up over favored Rylee's Boy to win the $350,000 Bank of America Challenge Championship on Saturday Night at Los Alamitos. Sent off at odds of 9/2, Favorite Cartel (BetPTC.com Top Selection) broke well towards the inside and never looked back as the oncoming Rylee's Boy began to come after him from midpack. But the lead was enough as Favorite Cartel got his first career Grade 1 victory, after being very close on a number of other occasions.
